Passing of Allan Harding

It is with sadness that we inform members of the passing of Allan Harding after a long battle with illness. Al was a long time member of the Antiquers and I remember Al as highly intelligent, passionate, genuine and always willing to help whenever and wherever it was needed. Al was always on hand to volunteer to help at our events and that carried on with his considerable time volunteering at the Temora Aviation Museum.

Funeral details for Allan Harding are as follows: 2pm Friday the 6th of July at the Temora Aviation Museum, followed by an interment in Temora cemetery.

Regards,

2016 GRASS ROOTS FLY-IN CANCELLED

2016 GRASS ROOTS FLY-IN CANCELLED

The unprecedented winter rains across south eastern Australia this winter with further flooding falls in the past 36 hours have seen Leeton and surrounding areas receive another 40mm of rain and the forecast for the week ahead is for another 20-30mm for the region.

Given the current status of Leeton airfield and the forecast of further rain this week, the Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Grass Roots Fly-in and focus our efforts on preparing for our Spring Fly-in and Annual General Meeting at Temora next month.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Bob Rankin and the Leeton Aviators Club for their hard work and preparation, hopefully we can return to Leeton in 2017 under much clearer and drier skies and firmer ground.

AAAA Grass Roots Fly-in @ Leeton: RESCHEDULED to 17-18SEP16

Unfortunately the weather gods are not shining on us with Leeton receiving an inch of rain already this week and forecast for another inch or two on Friday evening into Saturday morning.

As Leeton is an all over grass field with no tarmac or hardstand areas, the Committee has made the decision to cancel the event this weekend and reschedule in a fortnight's time, being the weekend of 17-18 September 2016.

It was by no means an easy decision for the Committee to make but ourpriorities are safety and ensuring an enjoyable time is had by all.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Bob Ranking and the Leeton Aviators Club for their hard work and preparation leading up to the event and look forward to seeing them in a fortnight with hopefully a couple of weeks of fine weather to dry up the Leeton airfield.

Antiquers @ Avalon 2015

Next year’s Avalon Airshow commemorates the centenary of ANZAC with the flying display focusing primarily on military aviation through the past 100 years. In addition to the very familiar ex-military types we see regularly at airshows, this event will see an extra special treat with over a dozen WWI types being brought in from TVAL in New Zealand as well as aircraft from TVAS in Queensland. Together these aircraft will put on a simulated battle with ground troops and historic military vehicles. For those that have seen these displays in New Zealand, you’ll know what an amazing sight this is and well worth attending Avalon to see this once in a lifetime (in Australia at least) event.

Once again the Antiquers will have prime position in the General Aviation and Airports static display area and once again we are looking for members who are keen and willing to attend the airshow and have their aircraft on display to showcase what the association is about – restoring, owning, maintaining and flying vintage aircraft.

The Antiquers static display area will be located alongside the primary taxiway and is the first static display area the public see when crossing from the exhibition area ensuring maximum exposure for our aircraft and the association. The Antiquers marquee will be setup as previous years as a hub for members with seats, prime viewing of the airshow, nibbles and cold drinks as well as a place to get out of the sun and away from the crowds.

In addition to our primary static display area, the Antiquers will be partnering with Shannons Car Insurance for an exciting new concept for Avalon, an historic “Wings and Wheels” display. The concept of this display is to have 2 aircraft from each decade from the 1930’s through to the 1960’s which will be matched by Shannons with 5-10 historic vehicles from the same vintage. Imagine a Stinson Reliant and Cabin Waco surrounded by 1930’s era Packards, Cadillacs and Mercedes or Cessna 195 and Auster surrounded by 1940’s era Chevrolets, MGs and Austins. This will be a great draw card for both aviation and motoring enthusiasts and another great opportunity to showcase and promote the association.

As an incentive to get involved, members who display their aircraft will be provided with a contribution towards fuel costs to get to and from Avalon. In addition to a contribution to your fuel costs, display participants will also receive 4 airshow passes, participant patches, entry into the Concourse d’Elegance for their aircraft, access to Club Airsport, admission to the Saturday evening presentation dinner and free use of camping facilities located at Lara which includes free bus shuttle to and from Avalon.

We are looking for up to 15 aircraft of all eras and types for the primary Antiquers display and 8 aircraft for the Wings and Wheels display. Participants will need to be able to have their aircraft at Avalon no later than Thursday the 26th of February and won’t be able to leave until after the airshow finishes on Sunday the 1st of March.

If you are keen, willing and able to get involved and have your aircraft on display, please send an email with your details to president@antique-aeroplane.com.au

The key things to remember for Benalla are the contra circuits and circuit directions for powered aircraft (as shown below).
The gliding club are aware of our fly-in and will be as accommodating as possible to our needs. We have been advised their peak time of activity for launching will be between 11:00 and 14:00 and recommend you arrive before 11:00 and depart after 14:00 to miss their busiest time.
The weather for this event was perfect and there was a great turnout a the airfield and many gifts donated to charity.

The NSW Toy Run this past weekend was unfortunately impacted by bad weather although many still turned out to support the event.

The remaining VIC and SA Toy Runs are being held this coming weekend and we're hoping for big turnouts at both events. Fingers crossed for good weather, even if you can fly in, hopefully it's not to far to drive and still participate.

Details for the VIC and SA events are on the "Events" page.

New Website & Committee Changes

The Association has recently changed our website to provide a fresh new look, easier administration and most of all, a range of new services for members. These include a member "self service" section you can update and maintain your own details, renew your membership, get in contact with other members through the Member Directory and chat with other members via the new discussion forums. Karen will be in contact with each member in the coming weeks to provide you details about how to log in to the new site, we hope you will enjoy the change and make the most of the new services available. We also welcome your feedback and input into how we can continually improve it.

There have also been some changes to the Committee following the recent AGM held in Cowra in September. We farewell former President Matt Grigg, long term Committee member Lorrelle Orrman-Watson and former Treasurer Chris Ashdowne who served the Association in that role for 18 years and is due for a well earned rest!

The Executive Committee positions were decided during last night's Committee Meeting and I'm humbled to have been elected to the position of President of what must be the most welcoming and harmonious aviation association in Australia.

We also welcome Mike Dalton into the position of Vice President and Helen Craven into the position of Treasurer. Kelly Strange continues in the role of Secretary which she has been performing diligently and very effectively for the past 2 years. We also welcome Darren Craven and Rod Luke to the General Committee and look forward to their contribution, skills and experience during the next 12 months.

There's plenty happening during the next 12 months with the many Antiquers events scheduled this year and next, the highlight being our National Fly-in at Temora in March celebrating 40 years of the Association. The Antiquers will also be well represented at the many airshows coming up including Temora, Point Cook and Tyabb.

Feel free to contact myself or any member of the committee with feedback, stories for Rag & Tube or just for a general chat.

 Fly safe.

 Cheers,

 Matt

Matt Henderson

Welcome to the new AAAA website!

Welcome to the new AAAA website. This change is a reflection of the continuing evolution of websites and online management systems.

Some of the major changes introduced with this new site include:

Online Membership Administration - each member will be provided with an individual account where you can login to the AAAA site and manage your own details and membership renewals. We've also added new membership options including the ability to have longer membership periods, from the current option of 12 months, up to 5 years.

Member Only Content - when you login to the site you will have access to content which is only available to members. This includes a Discussion Forum which will continue to be developed and serve as a place for members to collaborate in a secure environment. There is also a Member Directory where limited information is available on members of the association to help us find each other.

Events - all AAAA events will now be promoted on this site and where possible, we'd like members to register their attendance. We'll also be adding items such as Dinner Tickets & Bus Tickets to each event so you'll be able to purchase these online as part of your registration for the event. This will greatly help the association in accurately and efficiently organising these aspects for events and not over or under cater.
